My pup and I recently attended a “Barn Hunt” seminar in the area. Barn Hunt is a newer dog sport that has only been officially sanctioned since 2013. What is it exactly? There is a “barn environment” set up (think a big garage with multiple hay or straw bales set around and in piles maze-like). […]

Agility Update!

by Melissa R. on December 4, 2014

Emme and I headed to another AKC Agility trial this past weekend for just a day. We have not had any practice since our last trial about a month ago as Old Man Winter has blown in with quite the fury. We had a good 16″ of snow on the ground in just a couple […]

I can’t even believe it – how did my cute little puppy turn into a full-fledged two-year-old DOG? I remember thinking I couldn’t WAIT for her to be older….two seemed like a good age. And so far, it is. TRAINING: We continue our Agility training, and have been to a number of competitions this year. […]

My 21 month old Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever pup and I headed out to our 2nd USDAA agility trial a couple weeks ago. After enjoying our first one earlier this summer, I scoped out a few more in the area to try. This one was indoors at a newer facility we had never been […]

My 20-month-old pup and I just returned from our very first USDAA Dog Agility trial (United States Dog Agility Association). I have only competed in AKC in the past, but a group of friends were going to this trail so we decided to make a fun weekend of it. We headed off Friday afternoon (it […]

Itchy Puppy!

by Melissa R. on July 21, 2014

Just last week my pup, Emme, starting SCRATCHING! Scratching her legs, feet, sides. Itch, itch, itch! I started to feel really bad for her, she seemed to be itching non-stop. Previous to this, she had never had any issues like this, so I started wondering what was up. She had been in the lake several […]

Yes, my dog is on Prozac (Fluoxetine). She has been for over six months, and our lives have changed dramatically because of it. I urge all pet owners who have extreme behavior problems (reactive, anxiety, etc., ruling out health issues first) with their dogs to consider medication as early as possible. The thought of it […]

Emme, our Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, is now 19 months old. This means she is finally old enough to compete in some agility competitions. We have been training for agility since Day 1, learning to be comfortable on new things and starting out with the right training. So I was really looking forward to […]

I am not sure how it happened, but my “puppy” is now 1-1/2 years old! That means she is almost TWO! I wonder when I will stop calling her my puppy? Probably never. We’ve come a long way in such a short amount of time though, so let’s update. BIG GIRL! Emme is now uncrated […]

Come meet Emme. She’s a rambunctious, fun-loving pup who keeps Melissa on her toes.

Wow. I never would have imagined how much TIME having a puppy would mean. I tried hard to visualize what all went on with having a puppy before getting one, but I don’t think you can fully grasp the situation until you are actually there.

Puppy Update: 10 Months Old

by Melissa R. on October 4, 2013

Our Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever puppy, Emme, is now over 10 months old. I can’t believe how fast time has gone. My last update was at 6 months old so we have a lot to cover.

Puppy Learns to Swim

by Melissa R. on August 2, 2013

We got our puppy when she was 8 weeks old, right at the beginning of January. So by the time the ice melted off the lake and things warmed up, our pup was already almost 6 months old. Until the ice melted off the lake, she thought it was meant for walking on! Once it […]
