Cats

Things continue to progress well with introducing our new Bengal kitten to our other adult cats. It is taking longer for Cosmo to get settled in our home than it has with our other kitten-intros, but I suspect this is because of his breed, and his personality.

We continue to make progress with our adult cats and our new Bengal kitten, Cosmo. He has total freedom in the house now, 24 hours a day, though we still have his litter box, food and water in his “safe room” for him.

7th Day: Keeps getting better! First of all, we have a NAME! We have officially decided to name our new Bengal kitten COSMO. We finally were able to settle on one we both liked right away.

Things are really progressing well! Mr. Kitty was out and about all evening exploring and playing. There was still a lot of hissing going on by him, and our female cat, but slightly less than before and it continues to be only when they make direct eye contact.

We had a lot of good things happening tonight! We left the door open to the safe room almost all evening. He is definitely getting more bold and confident, as he was running around the whole room now, checking everything out. We got out some soft food, which we distributed in bowls and had everybody eat – our existing cats in the hallway, and kitty in his room, but close to the door so they could see each other and get used to the idea of “good things” with each other. It went quite well, although there was a lot of grumbling going on.

2nd Night: Kitty had a quick veterinarian exam in the afternoon, to make sure he checked out healthy. He also received his Rabies vaccine. Although he did meow quite a lot in his travel sack, he was generally a very well behaved kitten, and seemed to like his sack a lot. I am sure it is a good safe place for him so makes him feel comfortable. On our way home, I again introduced him to our current cats while he was contained. Our female was not pleased, with lots of hissing going on. The males again seem curious, but no ruffled feathers.

We currently have three cats in our home: a 10-year-old black male, Kai; a 3-year-old Silver Ocicat female, Cirrhi; and a 3-year-old male Chocolate Ocicat, Ritter. We also have a 13-year-old Border Collie! After a loss of a pet earlier, we decided it was time to get a new kitten. We had always admired Bengals, [...]

Most people think their backyard is a safe place to let their pets have a little free reign. For the most part, they are, but there are some common things that are in our yards that we don’t think to look at. Here’s some things I have come across that maybe you haven’t thought about.

Not All Cats Love Catnip?!?

by Claire H. on August 27, 2012

When I got my cat Senorita, I thought she was just an odd duck because she didn’t seem all that interested in catnip. I never really thought too much about it, but today I learned a few things on PetEducation.com that made it a little more clear… not all cats like catnip.

The cat Fun Run Outdoor Enclosure is a great option for indoor cats to enjoy some safe outside time.

think we may have all been there… Desperately trying to shove one’s beloved cat into a carrier in a mad rush to get to the veterinarian in time because you didn’t realize it would take an hour to do this? Yep, me, too.
One of our cats LOVES the carrier. We put it out, and [...]

I’ve been working at Drs. Foster and Smith for almost 6-1/2 years total, and last week I got to learn some new things about flea and tick control (as well as just fleas and ticks in general) that I had never heard. We had reps for Advantage® II and K9 Advantix® II (made by [...]
