Cosmo the Bengal Kitten
————
I can’t believe we are already into having our new Bengal kitten for a whole month! Seems like Cosmo has been with us forever already. The dynamics between our adult cats and Cosmo continue to evolve day-by-day and it is quite entertaining. I find myself spending way too much time just watching the cats, to see what is going to happen next!
We see Cosmo and both our younger Ocicats playing with each other daily. The males play more together than our female does, but that is expected, as she is more “Queen” of the castle. Generally, there is a good game of chase going on morning & evening. Cosmo has lots of energy, but he seems to burn it off playing on his own, and giving chase now & then. We try to spend a decent amount of time each day playing with Da Bird, or this new Kong Snake Teaser toy we picked up – all the cats really enjoy it! They all take turns, and learn to play nice with each other.

Lately, we have had some good progress with sharing bedtime though! Cosmo has come up on the bed at night a few times while the other cats are up, and stayed for a little while. There is usually some grumbling going on by him and our female, but the males don’t seem to care. The other day when I left for work, all four cats were up on the bed together! I imagine it didn’t last long but it was nice to see if only for a minute.
We have transitioned his litter box down to where the other litter boxes are. We were very careful to make sure he was using it successfully before moving it further, and keeping an eye on “things.” His stool seems fine now, though we are having a heck of a time getting his pill down him. He has a mighty nose on him and can detect his pill cloaked in anything. It is quite a trial, but we are doing our best to finish the medication.
I’ve been keeping an eye on his eating & drinking, and making sure EVERYBODY is getting their fair share of food and water. Seems to be going OK, though we still have multiple bowls out and I think we will for a while as Cosmo still growls if another cat gets to close while he’s eating. And so far, he still seems to enjoy snuggling in our laps when the time is right and taking a good nap!
Testing out the dog bed
Last, he HAS been getting into his share of trouble. We’ve had several plants knocked over and kittens spotted playing in a plant. We are doing our best to curb this activity by moving things around so he can’t access them anymore or simply redirecting him. We’ve also had a few knocked over items in the house… He has been WONDERFUL about scratching on posts & his cat trees though, which is fantastic!
Stay tuned to see how life with our kitties evolves! I haven’t even mentioned our dog yet…
