Aquariums Make Great Gifts For Kids to Grandparents!

by Melissa R. on December 1, 2011

GloFish KitThis time of year I always wind up stressed out about what gifts to give. What to give my mom, who has everything. What to give my niece or nephew. What to give my grandparents… The list goes on and on. I’m sure you can relate!

But now my problems are solved, at least for this year… My latest fun thing to buy as a gift is an aquarium. We’ve recently started selling a couple different kits – which is the aquarium, AND THE FISH! The aquarium arrives, and then the fish arrive after you set up the aquarium! It’s pretty cool.

I can attest to the coolness of it as I bought my niece a GloFish(R) Kit for her 8th birthday. She was so excited to get the aquarium in the mail, set it up, and then introduce the fish a couple days later. The GloFish are a HUGE hit because of their bright colors, and her parent’s like the aquarium because it is compact, and easy to maintain. Oh, and they GLOW! An aquarium for a kid is a great “starter pet” because of the lower amount of care required. A little feeding and cleaning, and you’re set. It’s a great way to build responsibility.

Another kit we sell now is a Betta Kit: it is a cute waterfall globe aquarium, perfect for at a desk in the office, or at home. Plus, Bettas are so easy to care for; you could get one of these for virtually anybody: parents, friends, grandparents or kids.

If you don’t want to go so far as to have your fish included with your kit, we have a lot of really cool options of desktop aquariums. One of my favorites is the Betta Condo – in fact, five of my coworkers have these on their desks and they love them! They can be a very relaxing break from the stresses at work.

We have several other modern looking aquariums you might want to look at: such as the Chi Aquarium Kit, the SPEC Desktop Aquarium Kit, or the 3 Gallon Picotype Aquarium Kit!

All these aquariums are under $100. Oh, and if you have a budding scientist in your midst, you may want to check out the ultra-cool Triassic Triops Kit (it’s only $17.99)! This fun and educational kit includes Triops eggs that hatch into real, living crustaceans that look like miniature horseshoe crabs.

Hope these ideas have helped you out this holiday.

While I’d look good saying “I’d love one of these for my nephews”, who am I kidding? This would be great for us!

I’d like to win a Beta Condo Aquarium because then my Beta would have the most stylish home of all the Beta’s in the area. Plus it would go fabulously with the decor of our office. πŸ™‚

I like to win a Betta Condo so that I can show off Bettas in a stylish way that also shows off the Betta. After all, they are attractive fish and need simplicity to show off the color and fins of the fish.

Our long time betta passed away & were really missing him, We would love to bring a new betta into our family & what a perfect way to display him in a nice new home to put on our kitchen counter for everyone to enjoy.

I love bettas and have owned several in the past. I have been wanting to add a betta to my elementary school classroom but I cannot afford to buy the fish, aquarium, sand, food, etc., all at one time right now. Winning this Betta Condo would be wonderful not only for me but also for the 44 gifted students I see weekly in my pull-out program!

I would love to win the Beta Condo to give to my husband for Christmas. It would be small enough for us to manage. Our beta (Fido) passed away 5 years ago at Christmas time and I would like to get him another and name him Rover or Spot. (Our doggie in a tank) lol … Have a Great day.

I am a college student living away from my family. I am far enough away that I only get to see them twice a year. Being on a college student budget, I am not generally afforded the luxuries of being able to purchase aquariums. It would be nice to have something in my room that relieves stress and helps to make it feel a little more like home. Being that the aquarium is the most expensive part of owning a beta, this condo would be wonderful to win!

I would love to have this aquarium. My northern Wisconsin pond – and all 13 koi in it – has been “put to bed” for the winter and I miss my fishy friends! I need an indoor fish friend to keep me company year round.

My three boys would love to win the Betta Condo. Every time we go to the store we stop to the fish section and admire all the beautiful fish. The kids go through and pick out which betta is the prettiest. It would make a wonderful and fun Christmas present for them. They would be so excited!!! Thank you for the wonderful giveaway!!!

Bettas are so beautiful…and my home office could sure use a bit of color!

brittany December 2, 2011 at 8:51 am

I have been wanting an aquarium for several years now, but haven’t had the money or time to find one to get together. I love the betta condo, because it’s already got everything picked out for you, so no hours of uncertainty over gravel types!

Claire December 2, 2011 at 9:47 am

I’d love to win for my daughter who is a college student! She’d love to own a couple of fish next semester, I’m sure.

kristen B. December 2, 2011 at 9:54 am

I would love to get another betta, but I only have one small tank and as you know betta’s don’t get along. πŸ˜‰ This would make it possible for me to own another betta. Thanks for the contest and good luck to everyone!

Claire Meney December 2, 2011 at 9:56 am

I would love this for my kids! How cool!

Ashley Grant December 2, 2011 at 9:57 am

I’d love to win one for my Downs nephew, Brandon. He got a betta for his birthday, in a small aquarium (complete with Spongebob decorations!), but one day while he was at school, his cat knocked the aquarium over, and Brandon came home to find his fish, “Gibbs”, dead on the floor. This would make an excellent Christmas gift for him! Gibbs II! πŸ™‚

We would love a new home for our Betta. Our glass bowl has a chip on the rim. I may have to purchase one of these if I’m not lucky enough to win it. Thanks so much for another great giveaway!

I’d love to win the betta condo so that I could adopt a betta and get him/her out of that little cup they always put them in. πŸ™ Always feel so bad for them. Not to mention this would look great on my desk and give me something pretty to look at when the phone calls/emails are getting to me.

Kenesha December 2, 2011 at 10:13 am

Wow, this aquarium would be perfect for my grandmother in her senior living center. She is 93 and still lives on her own. She loves pets but cannot have any furbabies at her apartment complex. This aquarium is perfect, unique, and beautiful just like grandma. πŸ™‚

Clayton December 2, 2011 at 10:57 am

I have several aquariums at home and I’ve considered starting one at my office. I think a betta would be a great choice!

Rebekah Welborn December 2, 2011 at 11:02 am

I am an elementary school art teacher. My husband and I keep several aquariums at home and this year I decided that it would be a great idea to have my children create paintings of some of these fish. The children loved the fish so much, that I decided to get us a classrom betta. The Betta Condo would be a great place for our new classroom pet to live!

Penny December 2, 2011 at 12:03 pm

My nephew and niece would LOVE this. They share the responsibilities of the current fish tank.

Wendy Schmoll December 2, 2011 at 12:17 pm

I would love to win the Beta Condo! It would a wonderful addition to my room, which is where I do most of my office work. Betta fish are quite beautiful – and just as beautiful to watch. Because I do a lot of computer work, my eyes tire quickly. I am forever glancing around so as not to hurt my eyes – but I have nothing beautiful to look at! Oh sure, I have plants and pictures and things, but they have no personality. I recently started a career as an online editor and have to maintain a blog, which is called Lefty at Large. When trying to find something to write about, I need to have something to focus on to create an idea. My new betta (named Lefty, of course) would be the perfect creative partner I need to get my career going! My new Betta Lefty would also offer me a bit of serenity by watching his graceful movements. I have an autistic son, so it’s difficult to relax sometimes. Lefty and his new Betta Condo would do the trick! Thanks!

Deb Ingman December 2, 2011 at 12:19 pm

Since my kitchen sink does not sit in front of a window to the world, I like to keep a Betta there to keep me company when I do dishes. Betta’s are good friends …they never judge and are always happy to see you….the Betta Condo would look pretty cool on the shelf next to me…and what little Betta wouldn’t like that fancy home!

Ellen B. December 2, 2011 at 4:16 pm
