“Tail-Wagging-Good” Gifts for Dogs (For Less Than $11)

by DFS-Pet-Blog on November 25, 2011

**Guest post from Ellen B.**

Give a dog a gift and you’ll have a friend for life. Ok, really dogs are so friendly and appreciative, they’re happy with a friendly pat on the head. But a new toy or some delicious treats are guaranteed tail-waggers!

Dog gifts also make FUN hostess gifts (assuming the party thrower is a dog owner!) I started doing this a few years ago, and people are always so excited to have something new for their beloved furry family member.

Whether you’re buying a gift for your own dog or a gift for another lucky dog, here are some gift ideas that are dog-approved by my dogs, Kobe (25 lb. Havanese mix) and Izzy (10 month-old lab mix).

Pawsome Dog Gifts!

Dog Treats:
1 Sweet Potatoes Treats: Healthy, chewy and very unique! My dogs’ ears perk up when they see me go for the Sweet Potatoes jar. These Drs. Foster & Smith brand treats have earned a 4.9-Star Rating (out of 5-Stars) by customers! Sweet-Potato-Treats
2 Biscuits: Perfect crunchy treat for a dog’s “cookie jar.” Inexpensive biscuits make great training aids, rewards, or simply a fun treat.

  • Fun option: Holiday-Decorated “Cookies”.
3 Rawhide Chews: Keep a dog busy! My dogs especially appreciate rawhides when outdoor fun is limited by weather. Rawhide comes in a variety of forms including rawhide bones, compressed rawhide, rawhide chews and more. Options:

  • Festive Holiday Designs
  • SmartBones (rawhide alternative that’s 99% digestible)

Dog Toys:
1 Stuffing-Free Skinneez Toys: Inexpensive and unique! My dogs especially love fun noise made with the bottle style Skinneez. Skinneez Dog Toy
2 Flexible Disc (Frisbee): Most dogs love a game of fetch, and the flexible disc (Frisbee) is just one of my dogs’ favorite fetch toys! Soft Bite Floppy Disc Dog Toy
3 Nylabone Chew Toys: The perfect gift for the dog that loves to chew! Nylabones come in many different shapes and sizes, and can even help prevent dog boredom which leads to behavior issues. Nylabone Durachew Chew Toy

If you’re buying a gift for a puppy, my list of my personally recommended puppy gifts is in this post about puppy chewing.

Dear Santa, it’s Benny & Sadie (Lori’s rescued Jack Russell Terriers) and we wanted to write to you this year with our wish list! Because we both were lucky enough to be saved from abuse and abandonment to find a wonderful loving home with our Mama, our first wish is for other homeless doggies. We hope other doggies can learn that not everyone will hurt you and that there are wonderful Mamas out there to LOVE & PROTECT you, plus do a little spoiling on the side! Now that we’ve taken care of the other doggies, we have a few things of our own: Bully Sticks! (Yummy!), Furry Babies with Squeakers (Something always seems to happen to ours… The guts come out, squeakers stop working…) and New Cozy Blankies & Beds for us to make a nest in. We’ve been really good this year, Santa! OK, well… Mostly good. Um, there was the squirrel incident and the hole we dug in the yard. Hmmm, do we get points for trying??? Because, Santa, we have TRIED to be really good this year! And most of all, we have provided lots of love & joy to our Mama, and we know that she loves us a lot too. Thanks for reading our wish list, Santa! Merry Christmas!

Our Manchester Terrier siblings, Capone & Jasmine could use some new sweaters for the cold winters in the northeast plus maybe a new toy to play with.

Sheryl Jones November 28, 2011 at 2:43 pm

Shelby wants a new Skineez toy. Megan would like the sweet potato treats. Maybe she’ll share with her little sister, maybe she won’t. Megan would also like an Easy Walk Harness. (Sure she does!)
