I don’t know if you are like me… planning next weekend’s fun at the beginning of every week. But my plans for this weekend WILL include seeing the 20th Century Fox release of “The Big Year.” Starring Steve Martin, Owen Wilson and Jack Black, this movie will be in theaters starting Friday, Oct 14th.
“The Big Year” is based on the 1998 book of the same name by Mark Obmascik. The characters are bird enthusiasts in a race around North America to see who can spot the most bird species in one calendar year.
I am sure with this star cast; it will entertain and renew our exciting hobby of birding!
I would love to hear from those that get out to see “The Big Year” this weekend.

I would love to attract more birds to my yard. Thanks for the giveaway!
Birds are stunning vertebrates. A group of baby birds, snowy plover, hatch in my tree, in my back yard. They just started learning how to fly, more flapping around then flying at first in my back yard. This is when I got see the lovely baby birds that were growing up in my back yard tree.
“The Big Year” sounds like a wonderful movie to start the bird feeding season off! Steve Martin is one of my favorite actors!
I seem to have a VERY opinionated Mockingbird adopt our yard. as it’s own. It sits on the electic wire between our house and carport, or on the roof ridge of the house, and just goes to town with the vocalization. I haven’t seen it dive-bomb the cats yet, but I’m sure thats coming eventually.
A week ago I visited the Sand Bluff Bird Observatory near Rockford. It was fascinating and educational. It reignited my passion for wild birds.
Look forward to seeing the movie and would love the bird seed! My cats have been keeping busy watching them and would appreciate more birds in the yard.
First time putting out bird seed and water and we can’t believe how much we love the sound and we live on a busy road. Even the Grackels, they fight for seed but we love the sound so pleasant.
Ive recently been thinking about adding a feeder to my yard, this would be awesome if we won.
As much as I love the birds …I love to photograph them too ! Have my feeders in the right locations so they can be enjoyed on a cold day from the comfort of inside the home. Nothing more relaxing to watch.
We love watching the birds come to our feeders. We have a large array of birds that come to feed, because we live right by the Kansas River. It is almost time for our red-headed woodpeckers to return!! Our dogs enjoy watching them as well.
I would love to bring more birds to our small condo complex
I LIVE to see all my birds! They are such wonderful entertainment. This movie looks interesting. Love the stars in it. Might just have to get it on DVD. Thanks for the giveaway!
Awesome giveaway, can’t wait to see the movie!
This would be great for my little backyard frenzy! Thanks for the contest
There is nothing that is more fun than filling the feeders and watching the featgered “diners” stop by for a meal or a snack. I especially like when the cardinals come in pairs, and the males are so sweet to and protective of the females. Their songs are definitely music to the ears.
I would love to try some waste-free birdseed. Thanks for the chance to win it !
I don’t know which my birds enjoy more, the bird feeders or the year round bird bath I have. I love seeing all the different species of birds we attract to our feeders here in NorthEast Wisconsin. We also have a couple of Blue Jays that come like clock work for their peanuts left on the picnic table for them.
Watching birds at the bird feeders is one of the most relaxing things.
I am in the middle of finishing up a bird pond with a drip fall going into it. The birds are actually standing around as if waiting for it to be done. It is right in front of my bedroom window where I also have my hanging feeders. I’m sure I will have many more birds to feed when I am done so the extra seed would be greatly appreciated.
I love feeding my birds and have done it in all seasons for many years. The movie sould like great fun. Thanks for the seed giveaway. My birds would love it!
We live in the DC metro area and we cherish the wildlife!! I would love to attract more birds to our backyard!
Thank You
There are a ton of birds here this time of year. Would love to have some additional seed!
We love feeding the birds in our back yard, and our (indoor only) kitties love to watch the show as well!
this would be great, my 7 and 4 yr old kids love watching all the birds that come into the yard when we put bird food out, and me too !
We have many wildbirds coming here, from hummingbirds to even a clutch of Cooper’s hawks that grew up in our back yard and played in the fountain in the hot, dry weather. Our favorits are the cardinals, chickadees, tufted titmouse and nuthatch and 3 species of woodpeckers. They are a constant source of entertainment for our parrots and us.
