Not Cat Toy Cat Toys!

Cirrhi and her new favorite toy

Cirrhi and her new favorite toy

We have three cats, all with different personalities and likes/dislikes. We’ve begun to realize we need to branch out a little to keep them occupied! Here are a few of our non-traditional “Cat Toys” we’ve discovered they enjoy:

  1. Cirrhi, our oldest female cat, is SUPER SMART and inquisitive. She is also incredibly driven by treats. Treats are her main concern in life. She is always asking for treats, and driving us crazy. Well, we found a way to keep her entertained for a while…I present to you the Seek a Treat Interactive CAT toy! It takes her awhile, but she does in fact get ALL the treats out of this thing. We have to stay away from her when she is working at it; otherwise, she thinks we will help… But if we stay away, she goes at it for quite some time.
  2. Last, our oldest cat, Kai, doesn’t do too much. A few bats of the paw here and there and the weekend scamper through the house. However, we set up a collapsible pen the other day, to use outside. We wanted them to get used to it inside first. Little did we know, Kai would claim this as his and spend HOURS lounging in it, and playing! He loves to bat at the edges, and entice the other two cats to play from the outside. It is quite comical! I hope he likes it as much when we put it outside.
  3.

  4. DOG TOYS: Yes indeed. Dog toys. Our youngest male cat, Ritter, LOVES dog toys. Not just little ones, either. Sometimes, the bigger, the better for him! He loves to crunch the squeakers, too! His latest favorites are the Invincible Snake Toy, Skineeze Stuffing Free Toys (any size!), and yes, the Squeek ‘n Grunters Gorilla (best for tackling). Check out the video below!

Let’s see, now. “Nontraditional” cat toys, eh? Well, there’s your shoelaces as you try to tie your shoes. There’s the dogs’ tails. Oh, and don’t forget your feet under the covers in the middle of the night! That one’s loads of fun (for the cat, anyway). Actually, at uor house, we follow the rule that anything not nailed down is a cat toy. And most things that are nailed down are also cat toys.

I agree with Rosemary. The list of nontraditional cat toys is endless! My personal favorite is a scrunched up ball of paper. My cat looks like a soccer star when she plays with it. And if it gets lost? Well I just reach into the recycling bin and make her a new one 🙂

My cat’s favorite toy is Da Bird. But since that’s a traditional cat toy and this story is about non-traditional toys, I’ll add that a scrunched up ball of paper like Lauren mentioned is also a huge hit in our house!

I have cardboard boxes around my house. My cats love them. I have one under a window and the sun shines inside it every morning. You will find a cat sleeping there everyday until the sun moves on. I have a box on a dinning room chair. My cat; Wrigley wiggles her big self in, the way to small box, and sleeps the day away. They also, I have four cats, little it when I stack the boxes and they play hide and seek from each other. Or; from themselves. LOL MOL!!!

I guess my cat is not so strange after all!!! Her favorite toy is the squealing gorilla. One of my greyhounds is afraid of it (yes, I had bought it for HIM!) so the cat seems to try to leave it where my greyhound sleeps, LOL!

For non-traditional cat toys I would have to include each other’s tails. I have four cats. I have one who loves to attack shoe laces when I am removing my tennis shoes. My shoe laces have little loops on them from cat teeth. There is also any kind of movement under a blanket whether it is a hand, a foot, or even a leg. Another favorite toy is strips removed from mailers that say to remove those strips before opening the piece of mail. And also, they love climbing into any new box, no matter the size, that is brought into the house. That is great fun!
