Celebrating Dogs!

Celebrating Dogs!

Today is National Dog Day! A day reserved for recognizing dogs and the good they do for mankind…and maybe even to get us to consider adopting a furry friend. Studies have shown that dogs enrich our lives. Despite our mood, they love us unconditionally, protect us, reduce the stress we feel, and research even shows that pets positively impact our medical health!

Sometimes I walk into the door with my hands full and 100 things on my mind. Later I realize I didn’t take the time to give my dog, Kobe, a pat and say a proper hello. Regardless of my ill manners, he’s near my side wagging his tail…just waiting for me to be ready to give him attention. What an understanding and forgiving creature.

Dogs help people in so many ways.

Dogs help people in so many ways.

It’s no wonder that hospitals and nursing homes use therapy dogs to help their patients. Therapy dogs can help troubles disappear as the dog becomes their focus rather than their pain. If only for a moment, the friendliness of these dogs brightens the days of the troubled.

My daughter gives Kobe lots of snuggling time!

Have you been blessed with a dog in your life? If so, take time today to thank him with a good ol’ fashion belly rub, a “you’re a good boy/girl” and of course a special dog treat is always appreciated. No pet? Go to your local animal shelter and see if there’s a furry friend that would fit into your family!

One Last Note! I think National Dog Day is an appropriate time to share one of my favorite videos. Ben Stein has some thoughts on how to get through the recession. His advice?…

As the saying goes, “I’m trying to become the person my dog thinks I am.”

That video is great! So true. I hope people really think about adopting one of the many homeless dogs. Need to go, my dog is rolling over for another belly rub.

I’m lucky enough to have a dog pal at home. Giving him lots of cuddles today, as I do every day! He’s the best and I can’t imagine life without my loving pooch.

The power of dogs never ceases to amaze me. They deserve a national day of recognition! Great post, and I love the video too :)
