Thanks Liz! Beagles are generally considered good swimmers, but of course every dog is different and has her own likes and dislikes. Try slowly introducing Nena to the water with her favorite person and lots of treats, just like any new situation. And heat is relative, isn't it? We do get days in the 90s here, but I personally think anything over 85 degrees is too hot!

Peggy - it's taken a lot of self-restraint to not buy Mo the yellow life jacket while it's on sale, so that he has both colors. I almost hate to admit how much I enjoy coordinating his collars, and sweaters, and t-shirts, and coats...

Mo's lifejacket is adorable! And so is his hairdo! My spaniel mix loves the water and swims, but isn't a strong swimmer. I have to make sure she'll come back before she tires.

I -love- Mojito's name! He's such a unique, neat-looking dog. You say he's a landlubber, but he looks right at home in that photo. I bet it's nice and (relatively) cool in Wisconsin. There are several words I could use to describe the July heat in the Mid-Atlantic, but this is a family-friendly blog.

I have a question: We have an 11-month-old beagle named Nena. In addition to living near the ocean and several bodies of fresh water, my dad has a little boat and likes to go out in it. How do you suggest we get her used to the idea of being a water dog? Or is she, as a beagle, better suited to splashing around in a kiddie pool?
