You Say it’s Your Birthday…

Baxter and Murphy

Baxter and Murphy

My dogs bring so much joy to my life.  They are always loyal, always excited to see me (which is a total self-esteem booster!), and never judgmental.  I’d also have to say they are one of the best stress relievers in my life.  With all they do for me,  I try to think of ways that I can give them a little something extra in return besides the regular toys, treats, and necessities.  Whether it is an extra walk, extra playtime in the yard, or maybe just some extra belly rubs, I’m always trying to think of something new.

Back when Murphy turned 1 year old, I thought, how great would it be to make him a special birthday cake?  I did a little research online, and found a recipe that seemed easy, and would be a good treat for him. Here is the one I found and tried:

Murphy waiting to get a piece of birthday cake

-1 cup of flour
-1 tsp baking soda
-1/4 cup of peanut butter (organic and all natural are great for these recipes)
-1/4 cup vegetable oil
-1 cup of carrots- shredded
-1 tsp vanilla
-1/3 cup of honey
-1 egg

Mix your flour and baking soda. Next, add the rest of your ingredients. Use an 8″ round pan (greased). Heat your oven to 350 degrees and bake for 30 minutes. Allow the cake to cool.

We topped off the cake with a single candle to enjoy and sang him “Happy Birthday.”

It was a great birthday and Murphy loved his cake and shared it with every one at his party. He even blew out the candle on top!

Remember, any change in your pets’ diets can upset their stomachs. This cake is only meant to be a treat, so be sure to give it in moderation. It is great to package up and share with dog friends as well!

I made this cake for my Toivo T Dogg’s 15th birthday party, and it was quite the hit with all the dogs!
