Favia Brain Coral under 403UV Stunner
I had the opportunity the other day to take part in a “meet-and-greet” learning presentation with Ike Eigenbrode, a member of the Ecoxotic Team. They are at the forefront of LED (light emitting diode) lighting technology for aquariums. I have to say, I have never met someone so passionate about his product. You could tell by listening to him, that not only was the LED technology a passion, but educating every aquarist on the eco-friendly aspect of it was too. I’d like to share what I took away from this learning presentation.

While the automotive industry and home renovation industry have already seen and applied LED technology, the aquarium industry is just starting. The Panorama Fixture is a sleek, contemporary light fixture that will blend in to any home décor. It’s completely modular, which means as new technology comes along, I’ll be able to update my lighting WITHOUT replacing the whole fixture. How cool is that! It’s also EXTREMELY quiet (silent actually), no noisy fans needed since there’s barely any heat given off. I also will not need my chiller, because this new lighting isn’t going to be adding heat to my system. Another HUGE bonus! There’s no switches or timers to break and LED lights last up to 50,000 hours! That’s 13 years! And, did I mention it’s modular? Oh yeah, I did. I’m so stoked about this.
The Panorama LED Module is this incredible “mini” independent unit that you can easily add to your existing lighting system, update your Panorama Fixture (remember, it’s modular) or use to add additional light to any part of your system. It can be easily mounted inside any existing canopy (how I plan to use it).

Then, there’s the Stunner LED Strips. These little guys are AWESOME! Up to six Stunners can be linked together with one transformer. They’re completely watertight, so if you have a system with integrated lighting, and you want to add some specialty light, say, the 403nm UV, you can affix it right in front of the splash guard. Think of it … the possibilities are endless!
Aside from all the super cool “techy” stuff these lights have, they are incredibly eco-friendly. The housing is completely recyclable, as is the box and other shipping materials. As I mentioned above, there’s no switches or timers to break and LED lights last up to 50,000 hours! That’s 13 years! So, no replacement bulbs needed, which means less bulbs sitting in the landfill. PLUS, the money you’ll save on your electricity bill will blow you away!
I can’t wait until I have my system up and running! I’ll be sure to post again and let you know how it’s going. Here’s more information on the super cool aquarium lights. Or, see the Aquarium Lighting category on FosterandSmithAquatics.com.
