During the winter, I don’t get out as much with Mocca. Normally we get in a lot of fetching and agility (outdoors) during weeknights, but once the snow flies, outdoor activities are shortened. It’s not that Mocca doesn’t LOVE the snow (she does – her favorite thing is to curl up and lay on a snowbank! I don’t know how many times I’ve had to take a second look to find her when it’s snowing. She’ll be curled up on a snowbank, covered in snow and blending in.) The problem is *I* don’t love the snow & cold.
To atone for my downfall, I make sure to take Mocca out on weekends for long runs on the lake (when it’s above zero!). Around the end of December, the lake freezes, and makes for great running and chasing grounds for Mocca. She takes off and just runs……………………. Sooner or later she turns around and comes back to me looking for her toy. I think it’s kinda like a dog running on the beach – only the winter variety!
Here’s some photos to enjoy of our latest romp on the lake:

Never fear – during the week we do a lot of indoor activities such as:
- Play with toys
- Trick training
- Peanut butter/treats Kong
- Buster Cube (See it here)
- Games like find the treat, or find the toy (See more indoor dog activity ideas here)
We’re looking forward to spring though, as usual. But for now, we’ll enjoy more winter walks!

Missy: This is hilarious! I LOVE the pictures! I can totally see it!
Great post, Melissa! Looks like you and Mocca truly enjoy your outdoor time (even if she enjoys it more than you do). And how wonderful to have the expanse of a frozen lake for fetch and running around — a dog’s dream!
