My husband try to do most of our holiday shopping before Thanksgiving in order to both help our pocketbook and avoid the crowds. What we can’t do before Thanksgiving is mostly done online in order to assure we’re able to both get what we’re looking for and also to avoid the craziness of the crowds. Still yet, we often have to go shopping in person too.

My wife and I just finished Christmas shopping for our Daughter and Son (she’s 5 and he’s 2). Now we have to pick up something for our Golden Retriever and our Orange Tabby cat. Off to browse around the good Dr’s shop (drsfostersmith.com) … see what I can find.

April Schumacher December 7, 2009 at 8:56 am

I only have to shop for my parents yet (and wrap everything) and this girl will be all set. That’s saying a lot, as I generally still find myself running around frantically on Christmas Eve for a last minute gift idea.

Lisa Smith December 7, 2009 at 8:57 am

Well this holiday season has certainly been a busy one for me and my family. I have been shopping for my dad and he has me shopping for my mom and my mom has me shopping for my dad. I am also responsible for wrapping everything!

The one little guy that I haven’t shopped for yet is my cockatiel. He enjoys the holidays with the big Christmas tree and pretty lights. He even gets in on the decorating by pinging his fruity pellets on to the snow. *chuckling*

If I am the lucky winner of this giveaway I will be spending it on treats and new toys for my birdy.

We haven’t started our holiday shopping yet! We have to do things a bit differently this year because my husband is having surgery right after the holidays and will be laid up for three months or so. Because of this, we thought that rather than spending a lot on individual gifts, a little netbook would be a great idea as a shared gift, since he won’t be able to sit at the computer. Our boys can chip in on that, so it simplifies things all the way around. On the other hand, our boys haven’t come up with a wishlist yet, so I see a little last-minute shopping in our future. Yoshi (our shih-tzu) is easy….anything fuzzy and squeeky is the world’s best present to him! When he hears the word “present” he immediately sits with regal posture and waits expectantly for some squeeky creature to appear….very funny to watch!

Almost all our shopping is done but we still have the babies to buy for. Going to look through the catalog this week and see what they would like. Love the Docs.

Erika Dinger December 7, 2009 at 9:08 am

I normally start shopping before Thanksgiving and usually have most of the present wrapped by Black Friday. But there is always more room to order from my favorite website Dr. Foster and Smith for my pet needs which is all year round. I love this website and I can probably vouch for my 4 wonderful dogs who use the products that I buy for them. I myself do not like the crowds, I used to go shopping on Black Friday until 1 day when I went to get a special item on sale and an older lady comes by and tries to take the product I have in my hand by hitting me with her purse since then I do not go shopping on Black Friday. I just hope Dr. Foster Smith will be around for many years to comes and provide the best products and unbelievable prices for my dogs.

VictoriaC December 7, 2009 at 9:11 am

Well, to be honest… I haven’t even started yet! But for the most part I do either GCs or cash, so it will not be hard to get my list done!

dawn mccracken December 7, 2009 at 9:15 am

Thanks for working so hard. Hopefully the sweet potato rings will be back in stock soon. My dogs love those and one is on a low protein diet so they were a lifeline for treats. Haven’t started holiday shopping. Running late this year.

Rosemarie Barrios December 7, 2009 at 9:22 am

I have my 15 year-old fat orange tabby, Petey, and seven canaries. I breed canaries. Petey loves that. I love shopping anywhere… in the stores, online, looking through the magazines for great buys. Of course, online shopping is a little more convenient, but nothing like walking around in the malls to get the Christmas spirit.

Christine Kinnunen December 7, 2009 at 9:25 am

I kicked off my Christmas shopping with a stop at Doctors Foster & Smith outlet store to pick up some things for my furry friends. This was our first time at the store and I don’t know who enjoyed themselves more me or my dog. Just a few more things to buy for friends and family, then I can just relax and enjoy the beauty of the season.

Tara Chambers December 7, 2009 at 9:25 am

Unfortunately, I haven’t started on any gifts… except for my dogs. In that department, I am almost finished! :)

Mary Ann Townsend December 7, 2009 at 9:26 am

My holiday shopping consists of only shopping for my babies(my pets) since I do not have any family. My Golden Retriever (Barkley) is my biggest baby. He gets stuffed animals and healthy doggy treats (but some of these all year long). And my four cats, CAT NIP, CAT NIP, CAT NIP anything with cat nip. They really love it. That is pretty much it. They are my family and I could not ask for a better gift than that.
Merry Chistmas!!!!

Deb December 7, 2009 at 9:30 am

So far my shopping has been online….no crowds!

Bethany Stallman December 7, 2009 at 9:43 am

Christmas Shopping is kept pretty simple…just a few gifts for the kids (including my 2 little yorkies!) I also work retail, so it is hard to keep the spirit of the holiday in mind. So, I pick up some things after work and shop online as well. Merry Christmas!

Tiffany December 7, 2009 at 9:47 am

I start my planning a few weeks before Thanksgiving..checking out all the Black Friday Ads, then plan my route Thanksgiving night. I get a good headstart over the same weekend and just drop by a few stores either on my way home or on my lunch break. I refuse to do the last minute shopping crunch.. It’s all about planning, budgeting and scoping out great deals!

Sally Weber December 7, 2009 at 9:48 am

Stressed! I have most of the distance presents taken care of, but family at home – wow, that’s another story. I do have a few kitty presents, but need a new cage for the chameleon and presents for Sophie, the Moluccan cockatoo – dreaming of that $25 gift certificate!! :D

Adam Moraniec December 7, 2009 at 9:48 am

So far, I haven’t started yet! Fortunately, my list is short and can be taken care of mostly online. Dealing with the insanity of the crowds at the shopping centers is my least favorite part of the season.

Sarah Prince December 7, 2009 at 11:19 am

Keeping it simple; little shopping, some cooking, a whole lot of singing. Helping facilitate food pantry donations….

Lisa Deshotel December 7, 2009 at 2:01 pm

I’ve got just about all of my shopping done. I have just a few things left to buy for my daughter and our dog. We bought Gigi (our Chihuahua) a new bed for Christmas, but still need to get her a lil something extra! Maybe a toy or some treats. We try to get most of our shopping done early (before Thanksgiving), while we have the money.

Kristy Dunnigan December 7, 2009 at 2:02 pm

My shopping has been primarily online! Love the time and money that I save… Merry Christmas to all.

Benita Bass December 7, 2009 at 2:36 pm

My Christmas list is short but trying to do most of it online. I am almost done but it is so funny I like shopping online and hate shopping in the stores except Christmas Eve. SMILE I must like the rush I love running in the store for the last few friend/co-worker items. Now the question is what to get my two spoiled dogs and my cute cat…they are really hard to shop for….

Marcia December 7, 2009 at 3:47 pm

My shopping is going slow I am unemployed after 71/2 years. I am mostly shopping on line, and staying at home, I am spending most of my time with my 3 dogs.

pam December 7, 2009 at 4:08 pm

Haven’t done a thing! I love last minute shopping!

Rosalie December 7, 2009 at 4:20 pm

Bought one gift for the furbabies so far (a cat tower from you guys) and two small items for my husband. After getting more toys and making a donation to an animal shelter facing foreclosure, we should be done!

Carrie December 7, 2009 at 4:29 pm

The husband and I did family gifts this year like GCs for movies, some popcorn, candy, etc. We were able to get most of the GCs at the drugstore kiosk and then add some things from the dollar store on top of it. Throw it in a pretty second-hand basket (on sale this time of year at most Goodwills and other thrift stores) and voila! Instant gift. It’s scaling back, but it’s still fun. That way we only have the occasional one-off gift to get at the store. :)

Heather W December 7, 2009 at 4:45 pm

Well, I don’t really have much of a list this year. I usually make little ornaments as well every year for my family and I still have to find the supplies to make them. The doggies and kitties already got their presents (its too hard to not give in) and hopefully I’ll be able to find another doggy before Christmastime to finish out the shopping. Still looking for the perfect completion for the family.

Debra Smart December 7, 2009 at 5:14 pm

I haven’t done any Christmas shopping yet! It’ll be extra tight this year so I’m waiting, trying to find that one perfect gift at a great price for everyone.

Mary Ann December 7, 2009 at 7:14 pm

My two pups have been extra good this year! Especially our 12 year old Lab Missy, who puts up with all the crazy antics of her 2 year old brother Schooner. Haven’t started shopping yet, but I’m sure they’d be thrilled to see a few extra holiday treats under the tree!

bette myers December 7, 2009 at 8:30 pm

I’ve just been so busy changing raindears for Santa around my back yard that shopping almost got away from me. Thank goodness I remembered Foster & Smith. My boys Jacob and Jay-Jay will have a nice Christmas and nice warm sweatshirts. Even in Fl. it gets a little cold. Thank You Foster & Smith.

SaraB December 7, 2009 at 8:38 pm

Hardy have much shopping done for others, so I’d better get busy soon!!! My personal wish list contains Gift Certificates from the fine Doctors so that I keep out of the dog house with the hubby with all my fish hobbies!

Melissa December 7, 2009 at 10:05 pm

With Christmas around the corner I haven’t really been able to shop much for the pets yet, but it’s nice to see F&S busy. Thanks for sharing the warehouse pictures, esp the one of Dr. Marty helping to fill orders! I was wonder what the items I order go through between the warehouse and the delivery truck!

Jennifer December 8, 2009 at 1:53 am

I am about 3/4 done with my Christmas shopping. I need to get more stuff for Mom and then a couple things for the pets. With an impending winter hours cutback coming up at work, it is going to be a small Christmas, but a wonderful one!

Sherry G December 8, 2009 at 6:18 am

I have some things purchased but probably not halfway finished. Nothing is wrapped. Oh well that’s what Christmas Eve is for.

Alana December 8, 2009 at 7:25 am

I am pretty well done with my Christmas shopping for everyone except my boys. I really don’t know what else to get them.

Bonnie Ramba December 8, 2009 at 11:38 am

Although I enjoy shopping in stores and all the lovely Christmas decorations, I’ve done almost all my shopping online – to much success! When I do shop in stores, I enjoy going to the smaller, “out of the way” places and have found them to be pleasantly surprising! However, although I’ve shopped for my greyhounds already, my cats and parrots are still in need of their gifts – I better get online to DrsFoster&Smith! Who knows, maybe Dr. Marty will personally fill my order???

Kelly Kell December 8, 2009 at 12:12 pm

Well given the economy this year, I have had to scale down my Christmas shopping quite a bit. I usually buy some of my xmas presents online, but this year I shopped exclusively online because it allowed me to find better deals. And of course one of the websites I visited was Dr. Foster and Smith’s!

Diane Weiss December 8, 2009 at 2:34 pm

When I was younger, I would make lists and run around like crazy trying to find the “perfect” presents for everyone. Too much of that diminishes the true meaning of Christmas and eventually makes a person feel a little nuts! With age comes wisdom – at least in some things. Now I give gift certificates/cards. Or the other alternative is, if the person you’re “gifting” is willing to do this — I make a donation to an animal organization in the person’s name or ask if they would like to “sponsor” a zoo animal or a “special-needs” animal. Organizations like “Best Friends” in Arizona (which is a “no-kill” animal rescue) have animals that need life-long care at their facility and they offer the opportunity for individuals to make monetary contributions to help out with this. These kinds of things make the Christmas season feel so much nicer than the annual “Yule-tide Buying Rush” used to. However, I make an exception in one area — my three “kiddies” — my three cats. They get toys, beds, furniture – whatever their furry little hearts desire. All three are 16 years old and I love them with all my heart.

Amy December 8, 2009 at 8:16 pm

Almost done, thanks to online wishlists. Wish your website had one too!

Ryan Williamson December 9, 2009 at 8:36 am

This holiday season I am planning on starting my first aquarium, it’s going to be a saltwater one!

I told my parents all I needed was a tank, because I know how much money they like to spend arounf xmas! I’ve done my research and realized that I’m going to have to buy a powerhead, new lights, a filter, a protein skimmer, LR, LS saltwater mix, a test kit, and ect. I have a part time job, but they only let me work 2 days a week and I have to have gas to get to school 45 minutes away.

I’m really excited about starting this though.

BettyK December 9, 2009 at 10:42 am

I have finished all my Christmas shopping early this year – I did most of the retail shopping online. I am a crafter and usually make gifts for my family too. This year, my children and grandchildren are getting quilted stockings made from my late husband’s old flannel shirts. That way they have a little something to remember him by during this special time of year.

Merry Christmas!

KathiB December 9, 2009 at 10:45 am

I start my Christmas shopping early every year. I do a lot of it when I see great sales for things that I know my family will enjoy. My cats alwasy get a few extra treats and toys this time of year too. I think I will finish up my shopping for them with some Ocean Fishies Treats and a Ba Da Beam from Drs. Foster and Smith!

Dennis Bourgoin December 9, 2009 at 11:09 am

Well all my Christmas shopping is done. I bought alot of toys and rawhide for all my friends that have dogs. And for my dog Fritzie an mini-daushound he has a stocking filled with a bunch of goodies. Cracks me up everytime he walks by it he stops and smells. Gosh I love that dog of mine. He is hoping everyone at Dr. Foster and Smith’s! have a great and safe holiday! Cheers to Ellen and Kobe.

Chris S December 9, 2009 at 11:15 am

Bah humbug. If it were up to me, there would be no gifts. But I don’t live in a cabin in the Montana wilderness, so I give in to familial expectations. The only thing I hate more than shopping for gifts is dealing with other people shopping for gifts. Thanks for online shopping – it gets easier (to avoid felony battery) every year.

Cathy Hetrick December 9, 2009 at 11:23 am

I’m way behind this year – I only have a few things here and there. We’re getting ready for a baby boy who is due in March, so Christmas shopping has been put off and put off. We definitely won’t be neglecting our 7 feline furbabies, though!!! We just purchased a snazzy cat door for the basement (I guess that’s more for the baby than them, but hopefully the learning curve will occupy them for a while.). :)

reva skie December 9, 2009 at 11:23 am

Big ole fail. I haven’t even started yet.

Kim W. December 9, 2009 at 1:32 pm
