The Waiting Game

by Monica S. on September 17, 2009

A newborn foal is one of the cutest babies in nature. The fuzzy nose and super soft fur is so adorable. Who wouldn’t melt at the sight? This year I have been lucky enough to be around four pregnant mares, one of whom lives at the barn I board my mares at. We have counted down [...]

Agility Competition Day 2

by Melissa R. on September 14, 2009

After our trouble with the A-Frame on Saturday, I was doubly worried about it. Added onto the fact that the course was tough, and a trap laid by the A-Frame, I wasn’t very confident we were going to make it through this one. There was a Tunnel entrance right next to the A-Frame entrance – a lovely trap. So off we went to run this one…All in all it went great!

Agility Competition Day 1

by Melissa R. on September 12, 2009

Whew! What a weekend! This was the first time we competed on both days of a competition. So both Saturday & Sunday were all agility for us. This was also the first time we competed in the “Open” class, and were quite nervous about it. The novice courses were really easy for us, and we [...]

As I detailed in a previous post, Contessa, my eldest parrot, experienced a bout of diarrhea recently, which is never a good sign in birds. When that bout turned into a smelly, messy weeklong malady, we quickly made an appointment with the vet.

Loss and Gain

by Barb S. on September 8, 2009

When I brought Rudder into my life last November, it was just 3 months after I lost one of my Newfs, Baci, who had just turned 11. Baci was diagnosed with bone cancer in June of 2008. Bone cancer is a common canine cancer, especially of big breeds.
I did everything I could for Baci, including [...]

Agility Lingo

by Melissa R. on September 5, 2009

Here are a few terms to remember that you might hear quite often at an agility trial.
Q: Qualified: Qualifying is what is most important when competing. In order to get up to the next level of competition, you have to Qualify a certain amount of times. We had to Qualify in three different courses, [...]

It’s for the Cats

by Melissa R. on September 4, 2009

Last week I brought home the groceries, unloaded them from the paper bags as I had forgotten my “eco-friendly” bags at home (of course!). As I finished putting the groceries away, I heard a crinkling and turned to see what it was. One cat had made his way INTO one of the empty bags that [...]
