Mocca’s Story

Happy Dog!

Happy Dog!

Mocca is a 10 year old Border Collie. Her coat color is described as “Liver-Tri” (which means she is liver-colored mostly, with white and tan highlights) and is registered with the Border Collie Association. She has an ILP (Indefinate Listing Privilege) from the AKC to allow us to compete in AKC Agility trials. An ILP basically means your dog is a registered breed, just not with the AKC, but that’s okay! She is from a line of working collies from North Carolina, and is a bit larger, and has a heavier coat than you usually see in a Border Collie.

How did Mocca come into my life? Well, Mocca was actually my sister-in-law’s dog! When my sister-in-law got Mocca as a puppy, she was single, and expected to do search & rescue with her, along with anything else that came along like agility, etc. After she & my brother met (he also had a dog and a cat), they married, and got another dog…. Along the way they started a family, and realized eventually that Mocca wasn’t getting the type of activity she needed. Border Collies need to be very active, and although they did their best by her, they knew she needed more.

At the time, I had an elderly Irish Setter, Molly, who I had adopted from a rescue group a couple years before. After some thinking, I decided Molly would benefit from having a friend around to keep her active. Therefore, I was happy to “adopt” Mocca in 2003. My sister-in-law is infinitely happy that Mocca is with me and living the life she always wanted for her. Luckily, they don’t live too far away, so they get to see Mocca often and even come watch her compete at the dog agility trials!

Thank you for your kind comment! I agree she is beautiful, but I am a little biased I suppose. 🙂 She is my 1st Border Collie, but not my last…!

Molly & Mocca are beautiful. I had an Irish Setter/German Shepherd mix, “Jackson”, as a child, seeing Molly makes me miss him. Jackson was as big as she is in this picture as a 6mo old puppy! He was huge. He made a great pillow to cuddle with. He was a bundle of high energy all the time. He was a quick learner and took to training easily. Will always miss him.

Thank you Lisa! Isnt it funny how the big guys always make the best pillows….especially since they like to take up all the room on the couch! Molly was forever finding a spot for herself on the couch, even if somebody was already sitting there. She’d just climb on up and sit down on whoever was there. I think she figured they’d move sooner or later…which they did! LOL…Love ’em!
